Semaglutide NAION Lawsuits in 2026 for Wegovy, Rybelsus, Ozempic Vision Loss

Semaglutide NAION lawsuits in 2026 are based on the failure to warn about this serious eye side effect. These court cases seek legal compensation for patients diagnosed with NAION vision loss or blindness.

Conclusions: Our findings suggest a possible association between semaglutide use and an increased risk of NAION in patients with [type 2 diabetes (T2DM)]. Although the absolute risk is low, clinicians should be aware of this potential adverse event, particularly in individuals at increased baseline risk for optic neuropathies. While these findings support current recommendations to discontinue semaglutide in patients diagnosed with NAION, the certainty of the available evidence is low, underscoring the need for further high-quality studies to clarify this association.

However, as we pointed out above, the current drug labels for Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus do not have any warning about semaglutide-associated NAION vision loss or blindness as a possible side effect.

NAION Linked To Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy: 2026 News Update

The eye side effect non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) linked to Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and other glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) drugs is the focus of an April 2026 medical study report published online by JAMA Network Open.

This medical study report, “GLP-1 Receptor Agonists or SGLT2 Inhibitors and Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy“, presents a 2025 analysis of 2017 – 2023 health records from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) done to investigate the rate of this NAION eye side effect that users of Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and other GLP-1RA drugs have reported.

When all was said and done, the authors of this 2026 medical study report about NAION concluded:

In this large cohort study, [Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and other GLP-1RA drugs] use was associated with a modestly increased risk of NAION compared with [sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) drugs] use. While the absolute risk remains low, the specificity of this finding may warrant heightened vigilance.

NAION linked to Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and other GLP-1RA drugs is an issue that first came to light in the second part of 2024. For example, two large medical studies from Denmark found that people who used Ozempic had double the risk of developing NAION, which can cause vision loss and blindness.

Tavneos Label Change Adds Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome (VBDS) Warnings

Just two days after the FDA announced it was considering a Tavneos drug recall, Amgen countered with a Tavneos label change that adds warnings for vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS).

As regards this April 2026 Tavneos label change adding more liver side effects, and specifically the new warning for Tavneos-related vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), we get the following information from a May 1, 2026, EndpointNews report, “Amgen files update to Tavneos label as FDA escalates push to withdraw“:

Amgen has taken steps to update its Tavneos label amid an ongoing battle with the FDA.

The company filed a supplement on Wednesday that would add more information to the warning label about post-market cases of vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), a serious liver complication that can lead to death. The supplement, disclosed in Amgen’s first-quarter earnings release, marks another twist in the company’s ongoing saga with regulators over Tavneos’ future on the market….

The FDA asked Amgen to pull Tavneos from the market voluntarily at the beginning of this year.

[The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER)] reiterated its push in a proposal to withdraw the drug earlier this week, citing new information that it says suggests Tavneos “has not shown to be effective for its approved use,” and that its marketing application held “untrue statements of material fact.” The FDA accused study personnel of manipulating the results of a pivotal clinical trial used to approve the drug.

Regulators also said they were “increasingly concerned” about the drug’s safety.

To understand the context in which Amgen proposed a Tavneos label change that adds vanishing bile duct syndrome warnings by means of its April 29, 2026, filing with the FDA, we point out this excerpt from this April 27, 2026, FDA Drug Alerts and Statements document, “CDER proposes to withdraw approval of TAVNEOS“:

Additionally, CDER is increasingly concerned about the safety profile of TAVNEOS. As further detailed in a March 31, 2026, drug safety communication, CDER has identified cases of serious drug-induced liver injury (DILI) associated with TAVNEOS. Some cases involved vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), which is characterized by progressive destruction and disappearance of the bile ducts in the liver. Although hepatotoxicity is a serious adverse reaction for TAVNEOS identified in premarket clinical trials and described in product labeling, VBDS and DILI cases with fatal outcomes represent new safety concerns.

As regards vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), a rather distinctive and singular medical condition, from that FDA Tavneos warning:

Some cases involved vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), which is characterized by progressive destruction and disappearance of the bile ducts in the liver. This condition can slow or stop the flow of bile and may lead to permanent liver damage. VBDS is often accompanied by the yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), itchiness, and tiredness.

To provide some facts and guidance about a possible Tavenos-related drug-induced liver injury (DILI) — because that “umbrella” term touches upon various types of liver disease and therefore, is a more complex topic — we refer you to this “Drug-induced liver injury” page of the online Medical Encyclopedia on the MedlinePlus website, published by the US NIH National Library of Medicine.

Those Tavneos lawsuits will seek legal compensation from the responsible drug companies through a Complaint filed in a federal or state court as a drug injury lawsuit.

Drug Injury Law Information

The Complaint in a drug injury lawsuit for Tavenos-related liver damage, such as vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS) or drug-induced liver injury (DILI), would likely begin with setting the factual stage generally, then moving on to a set of standard liability allegations and contentions.

We provide the following five (5) points of drug injury law information in an attempt to give you some idea about what types of statements, typically, might be included in Tavneos legal cases with personal injury and wrongful death claims:

  1. It is not unusual for an FDA-approved drug that appeared effective and safe to later be found to be unsafe. One reason is that after a drug comes onto the market and is prescribed to a larger patient population, harmful patterns can emerge that were not fully understood during the smaller “pre-approval” clinical trials.
  2. If a drug is later found to be unsafe, it is possible that the particular drug side effect was not adequately disclosed, not adequately investigated, or not properly acted upon once drug-safety “signals”, or warning signs, emerged.
  3. In that setting, Tavneos legal cases may focus on whether drug label safety warnings were timely and strong enough, whether physician communications such as “Dear Doctor letters’ should have been issued, and whether the responsible drug companies gave enough weight to the liver injury drug-safety “signals”, or warning signs, that emerged since the FDA first approved Tavneos in October 2021.
  4. Moreover, the fact that there has been a “disagreement” between the FDA and the drug companies may be a factor in Tavneos legal cases. It could be expected that, where the FDA expressed concern that Tavneos liver injury side effects are serious enough to seek removal of Tavneos from the US market, the plaintiffs in these Tavneos legal cases may argue that the drug companies should have disclosed, investigated, or acted sooner to protect patients.   5. Tavneos FDA Warnings: Liver Side Effects, Death Cases

In March 2026, Tavneos FDA warnings about liver side effects and some death cases were issued, just a couple of months after the FDA had requested that Amgen recall Tavneos for drug safety reasons.

According to the FDA, Tavneos (avacopan) is used together with glucocorticoids and other standard-of-care medications to treat adults with severe active anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyangiitis), a group of rare diseases that cause inflammation in small-to-medium-sized blood vessels.

Tavneos FDA Warnings

We get the following information from this March 31, 2026 Drug Safety Communication, “FDA Identifies Cases of Serious Liver Injury in Patients Taking Tavneos (avacopan) for Severe Active Anti-neutrophil Cytoplasmic Autoantibody (ANCA)-associated Vasculitis“:

FDA is alerting patients and health care professionals about serious postmarketing cases, including fatal cases, of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) associated with Tavneos (avacopan). Some cases involved vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS), which is characterized by progressive destruction and disappearance of the bile ducts in the liver.

Patients should contact their health care professional immediately if they develop any signs or symptoms that may indicate liver injury, such as: feeling more tired than usual; nausea; vomiting; unusual itching; light-colored stools; yellowing of skin or eyes; dark urine; swelling in the stomach or abdomen; or pain in the right upper abdomen.

As mentioned at the start, before these March 2026 Tavneos FDA warnings, the drug manufacturer Amgen rejected an FDA request in February 2026 for a Tavneos recall over concerns about drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS) liver side effects, as well as reports made to the FDA about death cases involving Tavneos.

Now, a week after the March 31, 2026 Tavneos FDA warnings about these DILI and VBDS liver side effects, and even with those death cases involving Tavneos, there has been no indication from Amgen that there will be a Tavneos recall.

Ozempic and Wegovy NAION Study 2026 Report: Two New Findings

A recent Ozempic and Wegovy NAION study made two new findings about people who used Ozempic or Wegovy and then were diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) as a drug side effect that caused vision loss. The first is that the Wegovy NAION rate is five times that of Ozempic. The second is that for users of Ozempic and Wegovy, NAION was diagnosed in men three times more than in women.

Ozempic-NAION Warnings Should Be In January 2026 Drug Label For New Pill Version

We have written about the Ozempic-NAION side effect drug safety issue several times over the past year-and-a-half, and have repeatedly pointed out that NAION is linked to semaglutide, the active ingredient in the currently available Novo Nordisk semaglutide medicines: Ozempic injection, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablet, and Rybelsus tablet. Further, we have suggested that all these Novo Nordisk semaglutide medicines should have NAION warnings, such that there would be Ozempic-NAION warnings, Wegovy-NAION warnings, and Wegovy-NAION warnings.

But as of late January 2026, when the “Revised: 1/2026” Prescribing Information document for “RYBELSUS and OZEMPIC tablets” was released, none of the drug labels for Novo Nordisk semaglutide medicines included any NAION warnings.

Ozempic NAION Risk 200% Higher Than Some Other Diabetes Drugs

The semaglutide-containing drug Ozempic has been linked to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). A 2026 medical journal article reported that the Ozempic NAION risk 200% higher than that of some other diabetes drugs, such as Invokana (canagliflozin), Jardiance (empagliflozin), and Farxiga (dapagliflozin), which are sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, also referred to as SGLT2i drugs. Like Ozempic, the SGLT2 inhibitors Invokana, Jardiance, and Farxiga are used to treat Type 2 diabetes.

This article, “New-Onset Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy and Initiators of Semaglutide in US Veterans With Type 2 Diabetes”, published in February 2026 by the medical journal JAMA Ophthalmology, begins with a “Key Points” part that includes the following:

Rybelsus Pancreatitis Warnings and Rybelsus Drug Injury Lawsuits

Rybelsus Pancreatitis Warnings

In October 2025, warnings about pancreatitis were added to the Rybelsus “drug label”. Insofar as there were no Rybelsus pancreatitis warnings until October 2025, there is a possible “failure to warn” products liability claim for people who were diagnosed with Rybelsus pancreatitis side effects before October 2025.

From the Rybelsus (semaglutide) tablets Prescribing Information “Revised: 10/2025” version [PDF document], here is the actual text for these new Rybelsus pancreatitis warnings:

5.2 Acute Pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis, including fatal and non-fatal hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis, has been observed in patients treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists, including RYBELSUS [see Adverse Reactions (6)]. After initiation of RYBELSUS, observe patients carefully for signs and symptoms of pancreatitis, which may include persistent or severe abdominal pain (sometimes radiating to the back), and which may or may not be accompanied by nausea or vomiting. If pancreatitis is suspected, discontinue RYBELSUS and initiate appropriate management.

Rybelsus Pancreatitis Drug Injury Lawsuits

We are investigating Rybelsus pancreatitis drug injury lawsuits, with a focus on cases of hemorrhagic pancreatitis or necrotizing pancreatitis involving death. Those Rybeslus pancreatitis death cases would be filed against the responsible pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk.

The best possible Rybelsus pancreatitis drug injury lawsuits would be for people who were diagnosed with pancreatitis before October 2025 because, as indicated above, those cases could include a “failure to warn” legal allegation against the drug company Novo Nordisk.

And cases of hemorrhagic pancreatitis or necrotizing pancreatitis involving death would be the most significant Rybelsus drug injury lawsuits in terms of legal compensation and liability, and better than those cases where the pancreatitis went away after a person stopped using Rybelsus.

Finally, cases involving acute pancreatitis diagnosed after October 2025 while using Rybelsus are less likely to be filed as drug injury lawsuits against Novo Nordisk due to the Rybelsus drug label change above that added the pancreatitis drug side-effect warnings.

In a significant development regarding warnings about side effects associated with Depo-Provera injections, an FDA-ordered change to the Depo-Provera drug label added a meningioma warning in December 2025.  Put differently, before this Depo-Provera label change, there was no meningioma warning in any of the previous Depo-Provera drug labels, also known as the Prescribing Information documents.

As you may have heard, Depo-Provera meningioma drug injury lawsuits have been filed against the responsible pharmaceutical drug companies in the past year or two.

This Depo-Provera label change has some people asking whether new Depo-Provera lawsuits can be filed in 2026, after this new meningioma warning was added to the Depo-Provera drug label.

We want to reassure women diagnosed with meningioma that they can file a new Depo-Provera lawsuit in 2026 if they were receiving Depo-Provera injections before this Depo-Provera label change in December 2025 that added the meningioma warning.

The reason a considerable number of Depo-Provera meningioma drug injury lawsuits will likely be filed in 2026 and the couple of years thereafter is that there is a delay, or “latency period”, from the time when a woman has Depo-Provera injections until that woman is diagnosed with meningioma.

Depo-Provera Lawsuits After This December 2025 Depo-Provera Label Change Added Meningioma

Women need to know that (a) if they used Depo-Provera before December 2025, and (b) they received a meningioma diagnosis before or after the December 2025 Depo-Provera label change, then (c) they can file new Depo-Provera lawsuits in 2026 (or later in time) alleging failure to warn about the meningioma side effect.

This is because the new meningioma warning has to do with women being informed about the benefits and risks of a Depo-Provera injection at the time it was received. And, as stated above, before the December 2025 Depo-Provera label change, there was no meningioma warning in any of the previous Depo-Provera drug labels, also known as the Prescribing Information documents.

In summary, here are the two primary factors for whether a woman can file a Depo-Provera meningioma drug injury lawsuit against the responsible pharmaceutical drug companies:

(1)  Before December 2025, the woman must have received at least 1 injection of any of the following:

  • Brand name Depo‐Provera 150mg IM Injections (Upjohn, Pharmacia, Pfizer)
  • Brand name Depo‐SubQ 104 Provera (Upjohn, Pharmacia, Pfizer)
  • An “authorized generic” version of Depo‐Provera manufactured by Pharmacia & Upjohn Company LLC, Greenstone LLC, or Prasco Laboratories

(2)  At some time after that injection, the woman received a diagnosis of some type of meningioma, such as intracranial meningioma, from a medical doctor.
